We love to go out to our farm and have a BBQ with lots of salads and different meats. Sometimes though, a simple sausage sizzle is enough. So, today I’m making hot dog rolls.
Based on my Hamburger Rolls, these are super soft and fluffy inside. Any leftovers can be used to make pizza subs for lunchboxes.
You’ll need to allow around 5 hours for this recipe. Active time is only half an hour.

- Warm 3 min/37/sp 1.5.
- Add flour, oil or butter and salt.
- Knead 6 mins.
- Turn out into an oiled bowl and cover. Leave in a warm place to prove until more than doubled.
- Turn out onto a lightly floured bench.
- Place a container on top of your Thermomix lid and tare the scales. Weigh and then divide by 8.
- Shape into 8 balls, weighing each one.
- Press each ball out into a rectangle and roll from the top down, pressing in each time.
- Place onto baking tray a little apart from each other.
- Cover with a damp cloth and leave in a warm place to prove until at least doubled. Preheat oven to 200C part way through.
- Brush with milk and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden on top and sounding hollow when tapped.
- Cool on a wire rack. Keep them joined up until needed. I break into two lots of four and freeze half.
