Have you ever looked at the ingredients list on a bottle of Coleslaw Dressing? There are some very undesirable elements listed. I found this list for Kraft Coleslaw Dressing online.
15 ingredients!
- High Fructose Corn Syrup – the worst form of sugar there is. It goes straight into your bloodstream, it’s cheap and its the MAIN ingredient in the dressing!!
- Water – to bulk out the product, meaning there will have to be some thickeners added.
- Vinegar – at least it’s a natural ingredient, but again, thickeners will be needed because there’s so much liquid
- Soybean oil – I prefer grapeseed oil
- Modified Food Starch – and there it is, a thickener
- Egg yolk – Yay! A natural ingredient!
- Mustard Powder – another natural ingredient
- Polysorbate 60 – an emulsifier used in skin care products. Keeps water and oil together
- Xanthan Gum – a thickener
- Phosphoric Acid – this gives the ‘zing’ to the dressing. Unfortunately, it’s not a nice ingredient. Phosphoric acid is found in Coca Cola and it is this ingredient that means Coke is great to clean tarnish off coins. It will also kill ants!
- Natural flavour – probably Rosemary Extract because it’s an antioxidant
- Paprika Extract – used for colour
- Artificial flavour – why would you put flavour in salad dressing?
- Potassium sorbate – another ingredient used in skincare. It’s a preservative. I don’t need that in my dressing as it keeps for quite a while in the fridge. Commercial dressings sit on a supermarket shelf for ages.
- Calcium Disodium EDTA – a stabiliser, not something I’d want to eat….
