Did you know that if you have a Thermomix, you can make your own brown sugar?
No need to buy dark brown sugar, light brown sugar or icing sugar mixture anymore….
The only sugar I purchase now is raw sugar and pure icing sugar. I like to buy CSR organic raw sugar as the crystals are smaller. Pure icing sugar is essential for making icing for cakes and biscuits, but I can make regular icing sugar for baking by milling 200g raw sugar on speed 10 for 20 seconds.
So, how do you make brown sugar? You add what has been removed – molasses…
- 500g raw sugar
- 60g molasses
- Place sugar into Thermomix bowl.
- If raw sugar is coarse, mill on speed 9 for 4 seconds.
- Weigh in the molasses and mix for 30 seconds/speed 4.
- Scrape down and repeat.
- Place into a jar with a slice of bread. The bread won't go mouldy and the sugar won't go hard!
